Library and Collections
One of the key attractions of the BFS’s headquarters at Garland Farm is the evolving reference library and archives for use by scholars and other interested visitors. It consists of three separate components, the first of which is a general reference collection of books and periodicals on horticulture, garden design, and allied arts. The second is a more specialized collection of books that replicates those that Beatrix Farrand donated to the University of California at Berkeley in 1955. This collection represents Beatrix Farrand’s working landscape library that she began collecting in the early 1900s and maintained at Reef Point. The third component is an archive related to Beatrix Farrand’s work, especially her projects in Maine, and is still under development.
The library is open to BFS members and their guests every Wednesday from 9AM to 1PM during summer months only and also by appointment. Please note that the library is non-circulating. To check on current hours or schedule an appointment, please contact the librarian at library@beatrixfarrandsociety.org.
Donations of books and periodicals are most welcome at this time. If you have books and periodicals that you would like to donate, please contact the librarian.
